UCLA Extension is proud to offer a professional certificate in the rewarding field of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling. This certificate is designed for aspiring substance use disorder counselors. Substance use disorder counselors support individuals in recovery, identify behaviors and problems relating to substance use disorder, and support clients in finding their motivation to change using evidence-based practices. The curriculum combines theory and research with practical experience to prepare students for the situations they will encounter as counselors. The curriculum and instructors are reviewed and approved by UCLA academic departments. Courses are designed to be taken sequentially starting in the Fall Quarter. The UCLA Extension Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling Certificate is approved by California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals Education Institute (CCAPP-EI). This certificate meets the educational requirements for those seeking professional certification from CCAPP and its certification board, CCAPP Credentialing. It is the student's responsibility to become familiar with certification board regulations and requirements. Our instructors are working professionals, leaders, and researchers in the addiction counseling field. They maintain strong professional ties to respected organizations, such as the Integrated Substance Abuse Programs at UCLA and the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals (CCAPP). They have a deep commitment to help students realize their professional goals. Our advisory board members include experts in substance use disorders and come from a broad spectrum of agencies and institutions, including UCLA's Integrated Substance Abuse Programs, CCAPP, the Los Angeles County Departments of Mental Health and Public Health, and the Matrix Institute on Addictions.
