2 Courses Required

UCLA Extension’s specialization in geospatial imagery analysis complements its existing certificate program in GIS and geospatial technology with a sequence of two courses that more completely introduce core concepts and techniques related to the analysis and visualization of imagery collected by satellite and aerial remote sensing platforms.  Applications of remote sensing and Earth observation are myriad and diverse.  While analysis of remote sensing data is particularly common in fields associated with Earth science, commercial, defense, and a wide range of public and private sector applications are becoming increasingly popular considering the proliferation of satellites collecting imagery and data about Earth.  The two courses included in this specialization ensure that students understand how remote sensing data is collected, what and how much data is collected and available to the public, and most importantly, how these large datasets can be used to better understand environmental and human processes.  Students will learn how to retrieve, process, and analyze remote sensing data and create GIS maps and related visualizations of results.  Additionally, students who complete the advanced course in this specialization will learn techniques for developing multi-step image analysis processes and models.  No prior experience with remote sensing is required, but basic familiarity with GIS analysis and mapping techniques is assumed.

Admission Requirements: Recommended prerequisites: Students from countries in which English is not an official language are required to submit one of the following test scores (scoreing above the minimum scores) to demonstrate English proficiency: TOEFL: 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based), 79 (internet-based)
