By studying the principles of voice leading, the treatment of dissonances, intervallic and harmonic organization, and melodic structures--all in a polyphonic texture--the aspiring composer and performer not only gains an important skill, but also develops musicianship, as the exercises in writing counterpoint provide an excellent vehicle for furthering the development of aural perception.Course Outline
