Course Description
Of interest to DIY musicians, producers, managers, startup record label personnel and anyone interested in learning fundamental marketing concepts used by the most innovative companies today. You learn how to describe your vision; identify a market need; analyze your fans; learn from your competitors; demo your products and services; set your marketing plan goals; and find the perfect mix of new marketing strategies ranging from branding, product, price, place, promotion and marketing information systems. The Internet, word-of-mouth, guerrilla marketing techniques, social media, mobile marketing, publicity, music licensing, live performing and touring, merchandising, face-to-face selling, sales promotions, radio and sponsorships are all addressed in course lectures, reading assignments and discussions with industry guests. You are provided with the opportunity to craft a customized, low-budget marketing plan of attack using step-by-step templates and to receive constructive criticism from the instructor and fellow students. At the end of the class, student teams are asked to solve real-world marketing problems by presenting innovative solutions before a small panel of guest judges.Course Outline
