Course Description
This course introduces the application of individual counseling skills when working with people with substance use disorders. Topics include an introduction to the therapeutic relationship between client and counselor; professional ethics; role and responsibility of the counselor; major theories of individual counseling with a focus on evidence-based practices; introduction to and practice with Motivational Interviewing; and introduction to and practice with Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT; four-hour training to meet DHHS requirement).Course Outline
