BIOENGR X 430.5 - Medical Device Manufacturing: Processes, Equipment, and Techniques
Course Description
Today's medical manufacturing environment requires state-of-the-art manufacturing processes to deliver the highest quality components for the lowest cost. This course focuses on manufacturing materials, processes and equipment that are routinely used in the manufacturing of modern medical devices. Instruction emphasizes understanding the capabilities of manufacturing processes and developing manufacturing strategies based on engineering requirements, product volume, and cost constraints. Students will be introduced to both long-standing materials and concepts that are fundamental to the industry, as well as the latest trends, such as digital manufacturing, Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration and environmental concerns.Course Outline
This course focuses on manufacturing processes and techniques that are routinely used in the manufacturing of implantable medical devices.
